영문 초록

This study explores what freedom means by comparing Lady Chatterley’s Lover and Zorba the Greek. Two works have a lot in common. The writers have been in similar social and individual situations, too. D. H. Lawrence and Nicos Kazantzakis have travelled into many countries and experienced illness and hunger during or after the World Wars. In that hard condition, they wanted to show us the greatness of body with mind and the will of human freedom in their works. This study will focus on the growing of Lady Chatterley and ‘I’, the narrator, as the heros in bildungsroman as well. Two writers have been influenced by Nietzsche also. They worried about placing excessive importance on mind only in modern society, excluding the importance of body. Their hope to find out what freedom means has led to more understanding of our own beings. So this study will examine the meaning of freedom and the growing of the characters through a journey in two works.
