Process Writing Using Google Docs in a College EFL Writing Course

국문 초록

본 연구는 대학생 대상의 영어 작문 수업에서 계획-글쓰기-수정의 과정 글쓰기로 글쓰기를 지도할 때, 구글 문서를 활용하는 방법을 적용한 실행연구이다. 객관적이고 보편타당한 설명을 지향하는 실증주의나, 현상을 이해하고자 하는 해석주의에서 나아가 현장의 실천적 개선을 연구의 목적으로 한다. 2018학년도 15주 한 학기 동안 진행된 ‘영어 논리 및논술’ 수업에서 계획-글쓰기-수정 단계로 진행하는 과정 글쓰기를 진행하는 과정에서 구글 문서의 활용 가능성을 제시하고 있다. 즉, 구글 문서는 영어 작문 과정에서 학습자가 상위 인지 전략 및 사회적 전략을 적용할 수 있는 유용한 기능을 제공하고 있다. 본 연구는 이러한 구글 문서의 기능을 활용한 과정 글쓰기가 영어 작문 수업에 효율적으로 활용될 수 있는 가능성을 시사하고 있다.

영문 초록

This action research investigates the potential of Google Docs as a writing tool with which process writing can be implemented efficiently and learners can utilize metacognitive and social strategies throughout the course of process writing toward the final writing product. Informants were English language education majors registered for a fifteen-week writing course ‘Logic and Essay Writing of English Education’ in 2018. In the cyclic phases of invention, drafting, writing, feedback, revising, and editing, the main data sources included learners’ writing samples and their reciprocal peer feedback along with questionnaires, the instructor’s reflection, and interview. As action research, this study pursued local improvements, rather than generalization or interpretation of the phenomenon. Having shown that Google Docs is a platform conducive to the processing approach in writing pedagogy, pedagogical implications and suggestions were made.
