일제 말기 김남천의 창작방법론과 모더니즘의 영향 관계 - 『녹성당 』의 서사 구조 분석을 중심으로

국문 초록

1939년 3월 [문장]에 발표된 김남천의 단편소설 녹성당 은 전향소설의 한 사례로서 제한적인 평가를 받아왔지만, 서사형식의 실험의 측면에서 새롭게 살펴볼만한 문제성을 내포한 작품이다. 이 소설은 형식상 세 부분으로 구분되어 있는데, 텍스트의 성립 과정을 진술하는 첫 번째 부분이 그 결과 산출된 서사인 두 번째와 세 번째 서사를 둘러싸고 있는 액자 형식을 취하고 있다. 두 번째와 세 번째 서사는 각각 묘사와 서사 위주의 이질적인 서사 형식으로 이루어져 있다. 이 입체적서사 구조 안에서는 작가 ‘김남천’의 이름이 직접 등장하는가 하면, 공간적 배경에 대한 묘사가 비대해지는 양상을 드러내고 있기도 하며, 그 전후에 발표된 작가의 다른 소설들과 자기지시적 상호텍스트의 관계를 갖는 장면이 제시되는 등 모더니즘의 미적 방법과 친근한 특징들이 나타나고 있다. 이렇게 보면 녹성당 은 작가의 경험을 서술한 자전적 소설보다는 실재와 허구를 실험적으로 결합한 모더니즘 소설의 형식에 더 가깝다고 할 수 있다. 이 논문은 이와 같은 소설의 입체적인 구조와 실험적 특징들이 형성된 맥락에는 이상과 박태원 등 동시대의 모더니즘 경향으로부터 수용한 영향이 작용하였다고 보고, 그 근거를 해석과 더불어 제 시하고자 했다.

영문 초록

This paper aims to analyze the narrative structure of Kim, Nam-cheon’s short story Nocseongdang(pharmacy “Verda Stelo”) . The text is divided by three sections which are different in narrative form. In first section, the author narrates the process of creating the narrative and it surrounds the inner narrative which is subdivided by description-centered part and narrative-centered part. In that narrative structure, we can find such modernist literary style as the author’s being in the text, the proliferation of description, and the self-referential intertextuality among the author’s texts. As a result, the text resembles not the autobiographical narrative but the modernistic style narrative that mixes the fact and the fiction into a new narrative world. It can be said that the stereoscopic narrative structure of the text has been established through the influence of the literary experiment by the comtemporary modernists.
