국문 초록

이 글은 일제 말기 임화의 비평과 문학사에 나타나는 과학기술의 문제를 살펴보았다. 그간의 임화 연구가 장르와 특정 시기를 중심으로 이념에서 감성으로 방향이 이동했다면, 다양한 장르에서 발견되는 과학기술에 대한 임화의 통찰을 분석 하고자 한 것이다. 1920년대 후반 새로운 예술사조와 연극의 형식을 소개하는 글들에서 드러나듯, 식민지 시기 임화는 기계 문명에 바탕을 둔 새로운 양식을 소개하고, 기술의 진보가 만들어 낸 사회 현상에 지속적인 관심을 보였다. 일제 말기 제국의 파시즘이 확장되던 시기에, 임화는 기술의 진보가 생산력 향상이라는 목적과 결부되어 어떻게 식민지 지식인들의 삶에 영향을 미치는지를 목격하며, 기술로부터 자유로운 정신의 추구를 주장했다. 근대 미디어와 영화에 대한 임화의 비평 에서 발견되는 상품과 표현의 구분, 전통과 농촌에 대한 임화의 재발견은 이를 보여주는 결정적인 증거이다.

영문 초록

The article examined the problems of science and technology presented in Im-Hwa’s criticism and the history of literature at the end of the Japanese colonial empire. While the direction of the previous studies has shifted from ideology to emotion based on the genre nd specific time periods, this article analyzed Im-Hwa’s insights of the technology found in various genres. As the writings introducing new art trends and the form of theater in the late 1920s represent, Im-Hwa in the Japanese colonial empire introduced new forms based on material civilization and kept having an interest in the social phenomena created by technological progress. During the period expanding fascism in the late Japanese colonial empire, Im-Hwa advocated the pursuit of a free spirit from technology, witnessing how technological progress, coupled with the purpose of improving productivity, affects the lives of colonial intellectuals. The distinction between goods and expressions found in Im-Hwa’s criticism of modern media and movies, and Im-Hwa’s rediscovery of tradition and rural areas is crucial evidence of this.
