영문 초록

The objective of this study was to confirm the effect of horticultural activities on the self-esteem of immigrant women in multicultural families. For this purpose, horticultural activities was applied to 15 married immigrant women who were supported by Chilgok Multicultural Family Support Center. The horticultural program was designed to include various activities reflecting the achievement of female marriage immigrants and expansion of personal interaction. The horticultural program was executed once a week and a total of 16 sessions during the period from April 4 to August 8, 2012. Before and after the horticultural activity, the participants were assessed for their self-esteem scale. During 2 horticultural therapists proceed the program, 3 social workers and healthy family cares observed and recorded the participants’ attitudes and behaviors. In the results, the self-esteem of participants showed a significant increase from 73.00 before to 90.60 after. According to the analysis of the records of participant observation, participants’ emotional expression including self-disclosure, laughing, positiveness, personal interaction were increased. Participants’ satisfaction was 4.7/5.0 and their statements for the program were represented the positive change like achievement, emotional stability and personal relationship.
