국문 초록

평균은 일상생활에서 가장 자주 사용되는 수학적 개념 중 하나이다. 이 연구에서는 우리나라와 외국 초등학교 교과서를 살펴 평균의 도입과 내용 구성을 조사하였 다. 외국 교과서로는 일본과 중국의 교과서 각 1종, 미국의 보편적인 교과서 1종, 그리고 MiC 교과서를 선정하였다. 이 결과를 바탕으로 교과서들을 다음과 같은 네 관점에서 비교분석하였다. 첫째, 평균 개념의 도입 맥락과 설명 방법. 둘째, 평균이 대푯값의 하나로서 도입되는지의 여부. 셋째, 자료가 계산의 편의를 위해 가공되었는 지의 여부. 넷째, 평균의 다양한 활용과 부적절한 쓰임 등의 추가적인 탐구. 이를 바탕으로 교과서에서 대푯값으로서의 평균의 의미를 선명하게 전달하고, 좀 더 실제적인 자료를 사용하며, 평균과 관련된 다양한 문제 상황을 포함할 것을 제언하였다.

영문 초록

Mean is one of the most frequently used mathematical concepts in daily life. The study examined the introduction and content of the mean by looking at the textbooks of Korean and foreign elementary schools. As foreign textbooks, MiC and one textbook for each of Japan, China, and the United States were selected. The textbooks were compared and analyzed from the following four perspectives. First, whether the introduction of the mean concept and the method of explanation were proper. Second, whether the mean is introduced as one of the representative values. Third, whether the data are processed for convenience in calculation. Fourth, whether further exploration of various use of mean and improper use were covered. It was suggested that the meaning of the mean as the representative value in textbooks should be clearly conveyed, that more practical data should be used, and that various problem situations related to the mean should be included.
