국문 초록

본 논문은 한국 사회의 언어와 문화적 특징들이 학교 교실 현장에서 교사의 수업방식, 학생들의 학습행태 등에 어떻게 영향을 미치고 서로 연관성을 갖는지를 분석하는데 중점을 둔다. 본 논문은 혼합 방법론 : 포커스 그룹 인터뷰 및 강의실 관찰 방법론을 활용하여 초등학교 교실 수업을 분석한 결과, 교실에서의 수업 행태 등이 체면, 눈치 등으로 대표되는 한국의 문화적 특징들과 한글에 나타나는 존칭어 구조와 특징들의 영향을 받는다는 사실을 입증하는 한편, 교실에서의 현장교육이 한 사회의 문화적 특징들을 반영할 뿐만 아니라 그러한 특징들을 더욱 강화한다는 사실을 설명해 주고 있다. 본 연구는 결론적으로 교실에서의 교육 행태와 과정 등을 보다 잘 이해하고 개선하기 위해서는 항상 그 나라의 문화적 맥락 속에서 현상을 바라봐야 한다는 점을 강조하고 있다.

영문 초록

This study used mixed method methodology: focus group interviews and classroom observations to examine aspects of teaching practices and learning behaviors in relation to the characteristics of Korean society. More specifically, this study aimed to explore the effect of language and cultural characteristics, and its relation to students and teachers behavior in the classroom. The study found teaching beliefs and practices were affected by the cultural features identified as chemyeon , hyodo and nunchi , as well as the honorific structure and characteristics of hangul (the Korean language). The present study, went further and showed that primary school pedagogy does not just reflect this social selection but also maintained and reinforced it. The study concludes that the process of teaching and educational practices should always be examined within their national cultural context in which the classroom is located, in order to understand and improve classroom practices.
