초등영어 주제중심 교과 융합수업 사례연구

국문 초록

이 연구는 영어 말하기 능력 및 다양한 어휘 지식 향상을 위한 초등학교 방과후 영어 수업에 주제중심 교수법을 활용한 다양한 교과목을 결합한 융합수업을 한 사례를 연구한 것이다. 2018년 4월부터 10월까지 초등학교 방과 후 영어 수업에 주 1회 2시 간씩 주제중심 접근법에 맞추어 교과목(과학, 미술, 음악, 수학, 체육, 사회, 실과)을 융합한 수업을 4학년 11명의 학생을 대상으로 12차시로 실시하였다. 사전 사후 시험을 통해 학생들의 어휘 능력의 향상 정도를 분석하였고 학습 흥미도, 참여도, 자신감과 같은 수업 만족도에 대한 정의적 영역에 관한 분석을 위해 설문조사와 학습자들의 학습일지와 수업 관찰 및 교사 일지 등을 실시하였다. 그 결과 학생들은 사전 사후 어휘 시험에서는 통계상으로는 유의미한 차이는 없었지만, 학생들의 영어수업에 대한 만족도가 높았으며 영어 학습 동기 또한 향상된 것으로 나타났다. 초등 영어수업에 교과목을 결합한 융합수업의 사례를 통해 초등 영어교육의 의미 있는 방향을 제시한 연구가 되기를 기대한다.

영문 초록

The purpose of the study is to explore the effects of Theme-based integrated English class for elementary school students in terms of students’ vocabulary achievement and the perceptions of their learning experience. For data collection, 11 participants of 4th grade in countryside elementary school from April to October in 2018 participated in theme-based English class integrated with subjects; math, music, social studies, science, Korean, and art, and then took both pre- and post-vocabulary tests and were given post-survey questionnaires with open-ended questions. In addition, the participants were asked to write their perceptions of each theme-based integrated English class. The findings show that there was no significant difference between the pre- and post-vocabulary tests. However, the theme-based integrated English classes were appeared to have positive influence on the students’ motivation in English. The participants’ learning diaries were reported to be satisfactory despite the learners’ burden for acquiring diverse vocabulary of each theme and subject. Problems and concerns were mentioned for more effective future integrated English education.
