영문 초록

The designation of Jeju as a special self-governing province requires to establish new objectives and strategies for regional development policy to create a free international city. To achieve this requirement, first, it may be necessary to develop evaluation indices for comparison and evaluation of current conditions in individual regions of Jeju in terms of life, economy and welfare. Then, the indices can used as criteria for evaluating the current development level of each region. This study developed and applied a regional development evaluation index system to 43 Myoens and Dongs in Jeju to compare their of development degrees with each other. There were 12 final indices including transportation, convenience facility, education, residence, income, industrial structure, employment, culture and leisure, social welfare, health and medical care, general administrative service and public safety when conditions of Jeju and possibility of data collection were taken into consideration. Since each of individual index had different degree of importance in evaluation on the level of regional development, relative weighted value was analyzed using AHP (Analytic Hierarchy Process) technique. Level of development in 43 Eups, Myeons and Dongs for 12 indices was provided as schematized diagram, and overall evaluation results were provided with reflection on relative weighted values.
