국문 초록

본 연구는 현재 의무화된 자원봉사활동을 경험하고 있는 중학생들과 이들 부모가 ‘자원 봉사활동’에 대해 어떠한 생각을 가지고 있는지 그 실제를 파악하고, 이를 토대한 자원봉 사활동에 대한 비판적 검토 및 개선 방안을 모색해보는데 목적이 있다. 연구 참여자들은 중학교 1학년 학생 5명과 2학년 2명이며, 부모는 이들 7명 학생의 어머니 중 참여를 희망한 4명으로, 총 11명이었다. 자료수집은 2017년 7월 26일부터 9월 6일에 걸쳐 이루어졌으 며, 개별면담 및 전화통화, e-mail 등을 활용하였다. 연구결과, 크게 4가지 범주인 자원봉사 활동의 궁극적 목적에 대한 긍정적 인식, 현재 이루어지고 있는 자원봉사활동의 내용과 구조에 대한 부정적 사고, 자원봉사활동의 평가 방법에 대한 불만족, 자원봉사활동에 대한 앞으로의 바람과 기대로 나타났다. 우선, 이들이 인식하는 자원봉사활동의 궁극적인 목적은 긍정적으로 나타났다. 하지만 자원봉사활동의 현황은 1) 떠 맡겨진 봉사활동, 2) 또 하나의 ‘스펙(Spec)’으로 활용되는 봉사활동, 3) 충분치 않은 봉사활동의 유형으로 나타났으 며, 자원봉사활동의 평가는 1) ‘봉사활동 = 내신점수의 반영’이라는 단순한 평가 방법, 2) 허술한 사후 평가 및 관리로 나타났다. 자원봉사활동에 대한 앞으로의 기대와 방향은 1) 유아기부터 봉사활동의 실천적 분위기 형성, 2) 사회적 차원의 봉사활동 문화 형성, 3) 다양한 봉사활동의 배치를 통한 선택권 확대로 도출되었다. 이러한 결과를 토대로 자원봉사 활동에 대한 교육적 시사점 및 추후 지원방향 등에 대해 논의하였다.

영문 초록

The purpose of this study is to explore the actual condition of volunteer activities through the authentic voices of middle school students and their parents who are under the current mandatory volunteer activities. Also, the study critically consider and seek better ways for volunteering activities. The total participants were 11: 5 first-grade and 2 second-grade students at middle school, and 4 out of 7 their mothers who agreed to join in. Data were collected from July 26, 2017 through September 6, 2017 using in-person, telephone, and email interviews. The results of the study showed that positive awareness of the ultimate purpose of volunteer activities, students and their mothers’ negative thoughts on its content and structure, dissatisfaction with the evaluation method of volunteer activities, and expectation and direction for future volunteer activities. Based on these results, the educational implications and future directions for volunteer activities were discussed.
