초등교사들이 수업에서 사용하는 다시 말하기(revoicing)의 기능

국문 초록

본 연구의 목적은 우리 초등교사들이 수업에서 사용하는 다시 말하기(revoicing)의 기능을 분석하는 것이다. 수업에서의 다시 말하기는 학생들의 말을 반복하거나 확장, 또는 바꾸어 말하거나 보고하는 것을 말한다. 이러한 연구목적을 수행하기 위해 4명 초등교사들의 4시간 수업 전사본에 나타난 다시 말하기의 기능을 문화기술적 방법으로 분석하였다. 구체적으로 수업의 상호작용계열인 교사의 시작차례(I)-학생의 대답 차례(R)-교사의 평가차례(E) 또는 다시 말하기차례(R)에서 특히 다시 말하기 차례에서 교사가 하는 말과 행동의 뜻과 그 기능에 초점을 맞추어 분석하였다. 그 결과, 연구 참여교사들은 다시 말하기의 학업기능 중에서 학생들의 대답을 평가하기 위해 다시 말하기를 가장 많이 사용하였다. 다시 말하기의 사회적 기능에서는 O’Connor와 Michaels가 주장하는 완전한 다시 말하기의 사회적 기능은 나타나지 않았다. 이와 같이 연구 참여교사들이 사용하는 다시 말하기 계열은 학생들의 대답을 평가하기 위한 것이라는 점에서 전통적인 교사주도 수업의 I-R-E 계열의 대안적 상호작용 계열이 아닌 셈이다. 결국 실제 수업의 이해와 개선을 위해서는 수업의 상호작용계열에서의 말차례와 그에 따른 참여 틀의 이해와 변화를 고려해야 할 것이다.

영문 초록

This article explored the functions of revoicing which elementary school teachers use in the classroom lessons. Revoicing in the classroom is defined as the reuttering of students’ contributions through repetition, expansion, rephrasing, and reporting by teachers. The transcription data gathered by 4 teachers’ lessons were analysed with ethnographic method which was focused on the meanings and functions of teachers utterances and actions in the revoicing move of I-R-E/R interactional sequence. The article concluded as follows: The academic functions having the highest number of teachers turns were evaluating students’ responses. The social functions of full revoicing asserted by O’connor and Micheals were not found. Like so, in terms of the revoicing move used to evaluate students’ responses, the revoicing sequence of the teachers is not regarded as the alternative sequence of I-R-E in the teacher-led classroom. In the end, We should consider the understanding and change of turn-taking and participant framework in the interaction sequence of classroom for the understanding and improvement of classroom practices.
