국문 초록

본 연구의 목적은 변수 개념 학습 과정에서 발생되는 오류를 진단하고 해결하는데 아이디어를 주기 위해, 담론에서 단어의 사용과 시각적 매개체를 바탕으로 소통 하는 과정에 초점을 두는 의사소통학적 접근의 적용 가능성을 탐색하는 것이다. 연구 목적 달성을 위해 변수 개념을 표현하는 단어와 시각적 매개체를 중심으로 검사 지를 개발하여 초등학생 4명과 중학생 2명에게 인터뷰를 하고 변수와 미지수에 대한 단어 사용 과정의 특징, 시각적 매개체에 따른 루틴의 특징과 루틴 형성 과정을 분석 하였다. 분석 결과, 연구에 참여한 초등학생과 중학생들은 변수 개념에 대해 수동적인 단어 사용의 특징을 보이고, 다양한 시각적 매개체에 따라 기호와 문자의 역할을 동일하게 인식하는 루틴의 특징이 있었으며 변수 개념 이해 과정에서 루틴 형성을 위한 담론 참여자들의 승인이나 동의가 중요하다는 결론을 내릴 수 있었다. 이를 통해 학생들이 변수 개념의 다양성을 인식할 수 있도록 교사의 담론 개발이 필요하고, 기호와 문자를 통합하는 교육과정 재구성의 필요성을 제안할 수 있었다.

영문 초록

The purpose of this study is to explore the applicability of communicational approach of thinking based on the use of words and visual mediators in discourse in order to give an idea to diagnose and solve errors that occur in the process of variable concept learning. In order to achieve the purpose of this study, we developed a questionnaire focusing on the words and the visual mediators that express the concept of variables. We interviewed four elementary school students and two middle school students with the questionnaire that we developed. Then we analyzed the characteristic of word usage process about the variables and unknowns, and the characteristic of routine and the process of routine formation depending on visual mediators. As a result, all students who participated this research used words about variable concept passively, and perceived the rule of symbols and characters equally. During the process of understanding the variable concept we should form a conclusion that the approval or agreement of the participants in discourse on forming the routine is important. Based on the result of study, the development of teachers’ discourse is necessary for students to recognize the diversity of the variable concept. Also, we suggest that people who make the educational policy need to reconstruct the curriculum that integrate symbols and characters.
