호주 한인중고등학생의 이중문화수용도가 진로성숙도에 미치는 영향: 이중언어수준의 매개효과를 중심으로

국문 초록

본 연구는 호주 한인청소년을 대상으로 이중문화수용도가 이중언어수준을 매개로 하여 진로성숙도에 영향을 미치는지 알아보고자 하였다. 이를 위하여 호주 시드니 지역에 거주하는 중고등학교 재학생 총 383명(남학생 190명, 여학생 193명)을 임의표집하여 설문조사를 실시하였다. 가정에서의 사용언어, 부모와의 진로관련대화 등을 포함한 개인인구사회학적 특성에 관한 질문, 그리고 이중문화수용도 및 이중언어의 수준과 진로 성숙도를 파악하기 위하여 구조화된 척도로 구성한 설문지를 사용하였다. 본 연구의 주요 결과는 다음과 같다. 이중문화수용도 및 이중언어수준과 진로성숙도는 상관관계가 있으며 이중문화수용도가 진로성숙도에 미치는 직접적 영향과 더불어 이중 언어수준을 통하여 진로성숙도에 영향을 미치는 매개효과가 있는 것으로 나타났다. 이상의 결과를 통하여 이중문화 환경에서 성장하는 청소년들의 진로성숙도를 높이기 위하여 가정이나 한인공동체에서 다양한 이중문화활동과 이중언어수준의 향상을 도모하는 것이 도움이 될 것이며, 이중문화와 이중언어를 역량과 강점자원으로 활용한 진로교육을 제안하였다.

영문 초록

The aim of this research was to study the relationship between biculturalism, with bilingual proficiency as a mediating factor, and the career maturity of Korean-Australian adolescents. For this end, a sample of 383 Korean-Australian middle and high schoolers who live in Sydney were surveyed (190 male and 193 female students). The questionnaire included questions about the participant’s spoken language at home, the level of conversation they had with their parents about career, and so forth, that focused on the collection of individual sociological data of the participants pertaining to their biculturalism, bilingual proficiency, and career maturity. The results were as follows: There was a correlation between biculturalism and bilingualism with the degree of career maturity. Biculturalism directly influenced career maturity and its effect was mediated by the bilingual proficiency. In conclusion, in order to improve the career maturity of Korean adolescents growing up in a bi-cultural environment, Korean community organizations need to develop and offer a variety of youth programs to improve their biculturalism and bilingual proficiency.
