취약계층학생의 수학과 학습부진 유형 연구: 잠재프로파일 전이분석

국문 초록

경기교육종단연구 5년간(2012-2016)의 데이터 중 1~3차년도 초등학생 데이터(2012-2014)를 사용한 본 연구는, 초등학교 취약계층 수학과 학습부진학생들의 학습 부진 유형이 3년에 걸쳐서 어떻게 변화되는지 확인하고자 하였다. 또한, 이러한 학습 부진 유형이 수학성취도 향상과 방과후학교의 영향을 받는지 분석하였다. 잠재프로 파일전이분석과 공변량분석을 통한 연구 결과는, 수학과 학습부진 유형이 1차년도의 경우, 세 가지 유형(고위험군, 중위험군, 학교생활 적응 잠재력이 높은 우수군)에서, 2차년도의 경우, 두 가지 유형(중위험군과 학교생활 적응 잠재력 우수군), 3차년도의 경우, 여섯 가지 유형으로 변화되고 있음을 확인시켜 주었다. 동시에 이러한 가변성 이 방과후학교에 의해 긍정적인 영향을 받고 있음을 확인하였다. 본 연구의 결과는 중·고등학생을 포함한 보다 확대된 추가 연구의 필요성과 함께, 취약계층 학생들을 위한 교육중재시스템 구축과 지원을 위한 교육 정책적 함의, 학교수준의 교육중재 효율성 향상을 위한 논의의 필요성을 제기하고 있다.

영문 초록

Childhood poverty is negatively associated with children’s learning outcomes in multi-aspects, such as cognitive, emotional, and social developments. This study longitudinally presents the latent classes of students with learning difficulties in math over psychological, school-level, and family-level characteristics. We used data from 2012-2014 Kyeonggi Educational Panel Study (KEPS), and limited to students from low-income families. Using the latent profile transition analysis, we investigated whether after-school programs affect academic performance among these children across three different academic calendar periods. We found that after-school programs had critical roles on the latent classes in these children with varying degrees by academic calendar period. The study highlights that after-school programs remain an important intervention in children from low-income families, and future research is needed to evaluate efficiency and effectiveness of the intervention targeted at these vulnerable children.
