In this study, we reviewed the development trends and the present condition of the instructional materials already-developed, especially focused on the documentary records and web-materials of preceeding researches to grope for the instructional materials development strategy mainly on the unit related with the clothing in the part of Home Economics Sciences of Practical Arts in the 7th Education Procedures. And also, this study introduced and presented instructional materials and their application plans along with the instructional plans through the clothing unit, so it intended to enhance the ease and efficiency of the instructional activities related with Home Economics on the educational spot. It, however, left the limitation of this study that doesn’t cover all sectors of Home Economics. Suggestions are following;
The first, in the 7th Education Procedures, Practical Arts is assigned to the 5th and 6th grade students. So, to maintain the connected relationship of learning, connected teaching is required as a solution using extra curricular hours or discretion hours. To support this, various instruction materials have to be developed in the area of Home Economics Sciences.
The second, the development of instruction materials has recently been focused on CAI, MBI, and WBI. However, it’s difficult to analyze the text and produce the materials on the spot in the point of technology, time and cost, so the support from the government is needed to develop by a team composed of related experts.
The third, due to the characteristics, various instructional activities are made and various instructional materials are applied in Practical Arts. In addition to the instruction materials such as CAI, MBI and WBI, to be properly used in accordance with teaching surroundings, various materials such as TP, PPT, Video Tapes, and actual samples are also developed.
The fourth, in the case of clothing unit, the instructional materials of the CAI types will provide real practicing surroundings using the virtual reality which can provide exercises. And, when producing real samples, it needs for the students to obtain the ability which can solve the problems creatively as well as merely to understand sewing function and knowledge.
The fifth, it needs for the instructional materials which were developed by a lot of time, efforts and cost to be updated continually not to be horded. And it also needs to be advertised actively and systematically because without being advertised, they are not used widely although they are very good. And it would be better to review the adopting effects of the instructional materials and to response the results to the succeeding development of the materials. It also seems efficient that the Association of the Practical Arts Education will participate in developing them.
The sixth, the plan that helps the development and production of materials by teachers has to be prepared. because there are many cases that teachers on the spot develop the materials by themselves without relying on the already-made materials to adopt the school’s educational policy, local characteristics, teachers’ ideas, and learning surroundings.
