국문 초록

The aim of this study was to investigate the association between body mass index (BMI) and Community Periodontal Index in a sample of Korea adults. In 2010, 3,309 subjects, 25-45 years of age, who participated in the KNHANES (a cross-sectional survey conducted by the Korea Centers for Disease Control and Prevention) were selected for analysis. They were divided into 4 groups: underweight 147 (BMI<18.5 kg/m2), normal weight 2,194 (18.5≤BMI<25.0 kg/m2), overweight 845 (25.0≤BMI<30.0 kg/m2) and obesity 123 (BMI≥30.0 kg/m2). Periodontal status was assessed by higher prevalence of periodontitis compared to those having underweight after adjusting for confounding variables; the odds ratios were normal weight (OR=1.27), overweight (OR=1.47) and obesity (OR=1.77) respectively. The result of this study suggests that it is possible to use the information as basic data for educational and periodontal intervention programs based on the BMI.
