훔볼트 언어관과 한국의 언어교육

국문 초록

인간은 본성적으로 언어에 구속되어 있고 또 언어에 의존하여 살지만, 개별적으로 볼 때 그는 자신이 태어난 국가의 언어를 바탕으로 하여 성장하고 삶을 유지해 나간다. 이렇듯 각각의 인간은 모국어를 통해 세계를 형성하게 되고, 그 과정에서 문화의 전승뿐만 아니라 발전에도 참여하게 되므로, 언어에 대한 바른 이해와 교육이 가능해야만 언어적 존재로 살아가며 자기 고유의 성장과 발전이 가능하게 된다. 그에 따라 본 연구는 훔볼트의 언어관을 바탕으로 하여 개인의 사유를 형성하는 데 언어교육이 중요하다는 관점을 제시하고, 한국에서의 언어교육이 어떠한 관점에서 어떠한 방식으로 진행되는지 고찰하고 있다. 먼저 제Ⅱ장에서는 인간사유와 언어, 개별 인간에게 언어가 갖는 역할과 관련하여 훔볼트의 언어관에 대해 개관하고, 언어교육의 의미와 중요성에 대해 서술한다. 제Ⅲ장에서는 한국 언어교육의 실제에 대해 서술하는바, 모국어로서의 언어교육의 목표와 국가 수준의 교육과정에 따른 국어과 수업의 실제가 어떠한지 기술하고 있다. 제Ⅳ장에서는 훔볼트의 언어관과 대비되고 있는 한국 국어과 수업의 문제에 대해 세부적으로 논의한다. 제Ⅴ장에서는 결론으로 한국 언어교육의 과제에 대해 제안하고 있다. 언어교육은 인간의 개별성을 강조하여 인격을 함양할 수 있고, 사회적 상호작용 맥락에서의 화법 익히기보다는 자신의 사고를 형성하는 ‘말’을 중요시해야 하며, 다양한 외국어를 학습할 기회를 제공하여 세계와 삶을 바라보는 시각이 확장되도록 해야 한다.

영문 초록

Human beings are by nature subject to language and also live being dependent upon words. Individually human being grows up and lives his life together with the mother tongue. He is able to hand down as well as participate in creating culture while developing his own set of values on the world with his homogenous tongue. In the environment, where understanding and learning language in the right way is allowable, a human being, as a homo linguisticus, can mature and build up his own identity. Accordingly considering Humboldt’s language theory the paper purports to illustrate that the language teaching is critical in the formation of a way of thinking, and to reflect on the perspective and the fashion that language schooling in Korea has taken. First of all, in chapter Ⅱ we will describe the definition of language education and its importance following preliminary review in large of Humboldt’s language theory regarding human beings’ thinking and language and the role of language that bears on individuals. In chapter Ⅲ we will discuss sprawled practices in teaching Korean at the classroom and the national goal of Korean learning. In chapter Ⅳ we will discuss further the issues found in Korean teaching at school site in light of Humboldt’s language theory. In chapter Ⅴ in conclusion we will suggest challenges in teaching language in Korea, Language education should be undertaken with individual idiosyncrasy considered.
