국문 초록

본 논문은 동시대 공예가 창의적 공동체 안에서 어떻게 전개되고 있는가를 고찰하고, 사회적 실 천으로서 공예의 양상들을 살펴보고자 한다. 이를 위해 공동체의 개념과 함께 현대사회에서 나타 나고 있는 다양한 유형의 공동체들을 살펴보고 이를 창의적 공동체의 개념과 연관 지어 보는 동시 에 창의적 공동체의 특성을 동시대 공예의 두 가지 양상과 연결시켜 본다. 첫 번째 양상은 협업을 통해 사회적 발언을 하는 공예다. 사회의 다양한 문제들과 관계를 맺고 사회 부조리를 고발하거나 저항운동, 시위문화를 이끄는데 참여하는 방식이다. 두 번째는 참여를 통해 공동체의 가치를 구현 하는 방식이다. 이들은 참여를 통해 자신들의 이상이나 가치를 구현하고 공동체 속에서 공생과 자 아실현의 장을 마련한다. 공예를 고정된 사물이 아니라 하나의 접근법이나 태도, 혹은 행위로 보고 공예의 실천과정을 통해 신념을 표출하는 방식들이다. 창의적 공동체로서 동시대 공예의 역할은 인종, 국가, 종교를 넘어서는 문화적 소통을 통해 자신과 이웃, 나아가 사회를 변화시키는 것이다. 동시대 공예가 이제껏 공예를 묶어 왔던 한계를 넘어 인간의 가치를 추구할 수 있는 최상위 실천 의 장으로 변하고 있음을 다시 한 번 주목한다.

영문 초록

The purpose of this research is to study how the contemporary craft has been developing within the frame of creative community and to examine different aspects of craft as a way of social practice. This approach requires a comprehensive understanding on the craft with regards to its concept and diverse features in the modern society. Based on this consideration, the research tries to figure out how the creative community is associated with the contemporary craft in terms of the following two perspectives. The first one is that the craft focuses on social voice via collaboration. This says, the craft is related with diverse social matters, discloses their irrationality and plays a role in leading social resistance movements. The second one is that the craft pursues value creation through participating in the movements. Now the craft is no longer any fixed object, but can be seen as certain approach, stance or some action. Within this context, the contemporary craft as the creative community is in a position to change ourselves, our neighborhoods and the whole society going forward by way of cultural sharing across races, countries and religions. It is notable that the contemporary craft goes beyond the past limitations of the craft, providing an optimal place for the pursuit of human values.
