Purpose
This research has analyzed polyp by its size, location, changes in HU (Hounsfield Unit) value in comparison to Colonoscopy from the ere patients operated with Colonoscopy after being diagnosed with polyp as a way to improve the utility and diagnostic value of Colonography (here in after referred to as ere), and has intended to examine the level of all deviation of patient’s pain when Co₂ is injected to ere instead of Room Air by conducting a questionnaire survey.
Materials and Methods
This study has conducted a survey of 410 patients, 231 male and 179 female, who have been tested with ere being hospitalized in the hospital from July 1, 2006 to December 31, 2006.
The Polyp size and the location at Colon have been checked through CT Colonography.
The Polyp size and changes in HU value between the Pre Contrast image and the Post Contrast image have been examined by comparing the CT Colonography and Colonoscopy.
A level of pain that patients experience during the examination has been examined by conducting a survey of patients who had been scaned with CT Colonography.
Results
1) CTC showed polyps mainly distributed in the range of 4~7mm and also the ones smaller than 3mm. Most polyps in Colon were found at Sigmoid Colon, and surprisingly also at the Ascending colon at a high rate. Among them, the age group in the sixties showed the highest rate of discovery.
2) In terms of the polyp size and changes of HU value between the Pre Contrast Image and Post Contrast Image in comparing ere and Colonoscopy,
The result showed that there is no correlation between the size of Polyp and the Post Contrast HU value at CTC.
There is an extensive correlation between the size of polyp shown through ere and Colonoscopy.
Polyps have all been erected and augmented, and the HU value of Post Contrast is distributed concentrating in the range from 50 to 150.
3) Through the result of the research, it was found that the pain of patient has been alleviated by using Co₂, which raised the rate of absorption in the intestine.
Conclusion
The above result of the research has proven its significant diagnostic value as the existence of polyp can be judged through the changes in the HU value of Post Contrast. It also showed the alleviation of patient’s pain in ere test that used Co₂. Also as the quality of virtual endoscopy images improved due to the development of the software and hardware, there is a tendency of increase in its utility in the aspect of the diagnostic value.
