Purpose
The purpose of this study is to improve accuracy of diagnosis and treatment for herniation of intervertebral disk through separating vertebral body and contrast media as using dual energy CT.
Materials and methods
We made phantom that was composited with animal vertebral body and acryl tube with contrast-media to evaluate the degree of separation between contrast-media and vertebral body by the concentration in contrast media and we scanned the body phantom with acryl tube as using dual energy CT. Also we scanned Phantom after injection into the pulposus of the vertebral body phantom to get degree of separation between leakage of contrast-media from the pulposus and vertebral body. After scanning, we got the reliability of the bone-removal parameter for dual energy CT discography and applied the data which obtained parameter by phantom study to patients.
Results
We got the acceptable images of axial, maximum intensity projection and volume rendering from the phantom study and patient.
Conclusion
Bone removal and merge technique in dual energy CT discography was useful to the diagnosis of inter vertebral herniation disk indirectly and to supply 3D images to the surgeon for improving treatment of the HIVD.
