과학 성취도 최상위 학생의 과학 문제 해결 과정에서 성공자와 실패자의 성별 특성 비교

국문 초록

초등 과학 성취도 최상위 학생들을 남녀 각 7명씩 총 14명을 선정하여 그들의 과 학 문제 해결 과정을 발성사고법을 통해 살펴본 결과, 남학생들은 과학 지식과 탐 구 문제 해결 과정에서 여학생들보다 더 다양한 전략을 활용해 문제를 풀고 있음이 드러났다. 이는 문제 풀이 성공자와 실패자에게서 모두 유사하게 나타났고 과학 지 식 문제와 과학 탐구 문제에서도 모두 남학생의 문제 풀이 전략이 더 다양했다. 또 최상위권 남학생들은 과학 문제를 풀 때, 기존의 과학 지식을 활용하려는 경우가 여학생보다 더 많았고 이러한 경향은 문제 풀이 성공자와 실패자 모두에게 공통으 로 나타났다. 그러나 초등 최상위권 학생들은 자신이 성공적으로 풀어낸 답에 대한 확신은 남녀 모두 자신 있어 했고 성별 뚜렷한 차이가 나타나지 않았다. 본 연구 결 과에서 나타난 초등 최상위권 학생들의 문제 풀이 사고 과정에 대한 경향을 통해 과학 영재 학생들의 성별 특성을 고려한 과학 학습 지도의 필요성과도 연결될 수 있을 것이다.

영문 초록

This study investigated the science problem solving process of 14 elementary high achievers, seven male and seven female students, by using think-aloud method. As a result, male students tended to use more various solving strategies than female counterparts, which was common not only to successful students but unsuccessful students. Also, male students used more various strategies in science knowledge items as well as scientific process items. More male high achievers tended to use their previous scientific knowledge, whether they succeeded in problem solving or not. Both male and female successful high achievers had a strong confidence in their problem solving. The results of this study shed light on the need of science teaching with a consideration of gender characteristics for the gifted in science.
