사회적 지속가능성’의 이념에서 본 다문화교육의 과제

국문 초록

이 연구는 사회적 지속가능성의 이념에서 다문화교육의 과제를 살펴보면서 다문화교육 논의 및 연구에 줄 수 있는 시사점을 찾아보고자 하였다. 그 배경은 지속가능발전교육 관련 연구에서 사회적 차원을 주제로 한 연구가 거의 없고, 다문화교육이 지속가능발전교육으로 논의될 수 있다는 관점이 자리하고 있다. 이 연구는 먼저 지속가능성을 실천적 차원의 지속가능발전 과정을 규제하는 이념으로 파악하고, 지속가능성의 한 부분인 사회적 지속가능성에 대하여 살펴보고, 사회적 지속가능성의 틀 에서 다문화교육과 지속가능발전교육의 관계를 규정하였다. 그리고 다음과 같은 시사점을 결론으로 도출하였다. 첫째, 다문화교육 연구가 현상적인 문제에만 관심을 가짐으로써 방향을 상실한 채 그때그때의 땜질식 처방을 하는 것은 아닌지에 검토가 필요하다. 둘째, 다문화교육 논의에서 사회통합은 변화하는 사회 환경에 적응할 수 있는 구성원 모두의 능력습득을 요구한다. 셋째, 다문화교육을 통하여 습득해야 하는 능력에는 사회적 결속과 상호작용을 위해 필요한 능력뿐만 아니라, 개인적 차원 의 물질적 욕구를 스스로 충족시킬 수 있는 능력도 포함되어야한다.

영문 초록

The purpose of this study is to explore the implications for multicultural education debate and research by examining the issue of multicultural education from the idea of social sustainability. The background is that there are few studies on the social dimension in the research on sustainable development education and the view that multicultural education can be discussed as sustainable development education. This study first identifies sustainability as idea that regulates the process of sustainable development, and examines social sustainability as a part of sustainability. This study denn defines in the framework of social sustainability Relationship between education for sustainable development und multicultural education. Conclusions are as following: First, it is necessary to examine whether multicultural education research is concerned only with phenomenal problems, so that it will lose its direction and make a tinkering prescription at that time. Second, in the debate on multicultural education, social integration requires the ability of all members to adapt to changing society. Third, the ability to acquire through multicultural education should include the ability to procure the material demands of the individual level
