기간제 교사의 학교에서의 경험에 관한 내러티브 탐구

국문 초록

본 연구는 기간제 교사의 학교에서의 경험과 그 경험이 기간제 교사제도에 주는 의미에 관한 질적 연구이다. 연구문제는 기간제 교사가 학교에서 어떠한 경험을 하는가와 그 경험이 기간제 교사제도에 주는 의미가 무엇인가이다. 이를 위해 사립 중 등학교 기간제 교사 3명에 대하여 2017년 3월부터 2018년 1월까지 심층면담과 참여관찰을 통해, 내러티브 탐구한 연구결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 기간제 교사의 학교에서의 경험은 ‘역량 키우기’, ‘열심히 하기’, ‘내려놓기’, ‘눈치 보기’, ‘인정받기’, ‘위축되기’, ‘즐기기’, ‘긴장하기’, ‘회피하기’로 나타났다. 이러한 경험이 가지는 공통적인 의미는 ‘헌신’과 ‘불안’이었다. 헌신과 불안은 신분적 불안에서 기인했다. 기간제 교사들에게 필요한 것은 학교에서의 삶과 개인적 삶의 균형을 찾는 것이다. 삶의 균형을 찾기 위해서는 기간제 교사의 개인적 노력과 더불어 사회적 차원에서의 지원이 있어야 한다.

영문 초록

This thesis is a qualitative study on the experiences of fixed-term/temporary teachers and the significance of their experiences to the term teacher system. The research issues are about what kinds of experiences term teachers go through in school, their work place, and the meaning of their work experiences to the term teacher system. The following are the results of a narrative inquiry after conducting in-depth interviews and participating-observation with the three private middle school temporary teachers from March 2017 to January 2018 for the research. First, their experiences turned out to be “building competency”, “working hard”, “laying down/giving up”, “reading other’s countenance”, “getting recognized”, “being intimidated”, “enjoying”, “feeling nervous”, and “avoiding.” The common implications of these experiences were “commitment” and “anxiety.” The root of those two is the status anxiety. What the temporary teachers need is a balance between their school and personal life. To realize this, it is necessary for temporary teachers to make a personal effort. In addition to this, there should be social support.
