근세 일본 임진왜란 관련 작품 속 해전ㆍ조선수군ㆍ수군전술의 변화

국문 초록

이 글은 근세 일본의 몇 가지 문헌을 통해 임진왜란 직후부터 근대 사학이 성립하기 이전까지 일본 내에서 임진왜란 해전을 어떻게 기록해 왔는지 살펴보고자 하는 글이다. 이 글에서는 근세 일본에서 임진왜란 해전 전체 양상과 그 안에 보이는 조선수군의 이미지, 조선수군의 전술 등을 어떻게 그려왔는가를 살펴보고자 한다. 이를 통해 근세 일본인들이 기억하고 있었던 임진왜란 해전은 어떠했는가를 엿볼 수 있을 것이다. 전쟁에 참가했던 참전무사들의 기록에서 그들은 비교적 정확하게 임진왜란 해전과 조선수군을 기록하고 있었으나, 후대로 갈수록 임진왜란 해전의 전체상과 조선수군에 대한 기술은 왜곡되어 갔다. 『태합기(太閤記)』의 작자가 작가적 상상력으로 그린 칠천량해전 기사ㆍ조선수군의 이미지와, 『조선정벌기(朝鮮征伐記)』의 작자가 작가적 상상력을 발휘한 ‘조선수군의 등선육박전술’ 기사 등은 후대에 많은 영향을 끼쳤다. 이 영향은 근대사학이 등장하기 전까지 일본인들이 임진왜란 해전을 정확하게 파악하는 것을 방해했다. 이러한 변화가 발생한 것은 연결고리 역할을 했던 문헌들이 임진왜란에 대한 이해가 부족했던 작자들에 의해 기록되었기 때문이었고, 그러한 문헌들이 후대에 결정적인 영향을 주었기 때문이었다. 이러한 왜곡은 선행문헌보다 후대의 문헌이 더욱 다양한 자료를 확보할 수 있었음에도 해결되지 않았다.

영문 초록

After the Imjin War had ended, there were many literatures published in Japan about the war. Only after one century after the end of the war, Japan had published ‘the History of the Imjin War’ by collecting many historical records. In order to understand Japan’s current recognition about the Imjin war, it is critical to research about how did Japanese describe the naval warfare where they had to experience consecutive losses over the land battles where they were overwhelming. The main objective of this research paper is to contemplate on how naval battles on the Imjin War is portrayed in Japanese modern Publication collections. In this study, we can find why and how the naval battles, images of Korean navy and tactics of Korean navy had been changed a lot on acceptance process in Japanese historical Novels about the Imjin war. The above process and aspects were closely considered in this research paper. After the Imjin War had ended, there were many literatures published in Japan about the war. Only after one century after the end of the war, Japan had published ‘the History of the Imjin War’ by collecting many historical records. In order to understand Japan’s current recognition about the Imjin war, it is critical to research about how did Japanese describe the naval warfare where they had to experience consecutive losses over the land battles where they were overwhelming.
