To find out the selection efficiency of days to heading, spikelet fertility and spikelet number per panicle under cold water condition, plant selection and progeny test were conducted under 17℃ water temperature using F₂ plants of Cheolweon 50/Jinbuolbyeo and F₄ population of Jinbuchalbyeo/Jinbubyeo//Shinseonchalbyeo/Songjeonbyeo. Frequency distribution curves in F₂ plants leaned to low leaf discoloration value, late heading, long culm length, low spikelet fertility, and spikelet number per panicle showed wide continuous variation in F₂ under cold water treatment. Plant selection for early heading in F₂ and F₄ under cold water condition was effective and the most effective results were obtained when plants were selected based on all of days to heading, spikelet fertility and spikelet number per panicle in F₂, and both days to heading and spikelet fertility in F₄. Heritability of days to heading by genetic advance method was extremely high. Selection by high spikelet fertility was effective and plant selection conducted based on both spikelet fertility and spikelet number per panicle in F₂ and spikelet fertility alone in F₄ were most effective. Heritability of spikelet fertility calculated by genetic advance method was high in both combinations observed. Selection efficiency of spikelet number per panicle was lower than that of days to heading or spikelet fertility. Heritability of spikelet number per panicle by genetic advance method was not high.
