간호사의 영어 사용 외국인환자 간호 업무 경험

국문 초록

본 연구는 간호사의 영어 사용 외국인 환자 간호 업무경험을 토대로 영어사용 외국인 간호업무 개선을 위해 시도된 질적연구이다. 이를 위해 C시 소재 D 대학병원에 근무하는 간호사중 영어사용 외국인 환자를 간호한 경험이 있는 6명을 대상으로 2017년 2월부터 2017년 4월까지 면담과 관찰법을 사용하여 자료수집이 이루어졌다. 연구 결과, 영어를 사용하는 외국인 환자를 간호한 업무경험이 있는 참여자들은 ‘외국인 환자 간호에 대한 두려움’을 느꼈으며, ‘의사소통의 어려움’, ‘외국인 환자와 문 화적 차이’, ‘외국인 환자 간호를 위한 자원 부족’ 의 문제로 인해 간호업무 수행시 어려움을 겪었다. 반면에, 외국인 환자 간호 경험이 쌓이면서 자긍심이 생기고, 외국인 환자에게 먼저 다가가고, 다양한 생각을 존중하고 받아들이며, 상황에 따른 대처 능력을 키우고, 영어 공부를 시도하는 등 ‘외국인 환자 간호를 통한 역량증가’ 가 나타나기도 했다. 본 연구 결과는 영어 사용 외국인 환자 간호업무를 하는데 있어 어떤 노력을 기울여야 하는지와 올바른 간호사의 업무 수행에 도움이 될 것으로 판단되 며, 영어 사용 외국인 환자 간호시 기초자료로 사용될 수 있을 것이다.

영문 초록

This is a qualitative research designed to improve nursing practicefor foreign patients who speak English, based on nurses’work experience of providing nursing practice for English-speaking foreign patients. The interview and observation method were used in order to collect data from February 2017 to April 2017 for six people who worked for the D university hospital located in the C city and had the experience of nursing English-speaking foreign patients. According to the study results, the subjects who had experience of nursing English-speaking foreign patients felt ‘fear for nursing foreign patients’, and the subjects had difficulties in nursing foreign patients due to ‘difficulty in communication, ’‘cultural difference with foreign patients’ and lack of resources for nursing foreign patients.’Meanwhile, the study suggested that the subjects led to ‘improving their capabilities.’For instance, by building upon their experience of nursing foreign patients, the subjects felt pride in nursing foreign patients, reached out to foreign patients, apprised and accept eddiverse ideas, enhanced skills to deal with situations, and tried studying English. This study would help examine what is needed to better nurse English-speaking foreign patients. Further, this study would be helpful in nurses’ performing desirable nursing practice, and be used as a basic material in nursing English-speaking foreign patients.
