To study the genetics and association of dwarfism and gibberellic acid response(GA3) in barley, first of all, a series of experiments about application method, time, concentration and experimental method of gibberellic acid were done with use of 10 barley varieties.
The responses of plant height, internode length and the second leaf length in barley plants were highly significant with the application methods, concentrations and different varieties, and also the interactions among those factors were significant.
Gibberellic acid response could pertinently be classified in both hydroponics and sand culture with application of 10-50ppm GA3 solutions. However, varietal differences of internode length in sand culture became less by microenvironmental factors.
Olbori and Sacheon 6 were insensitive to GA3, but Dusan 12, Dusan 8, Paldalbori, Suwon 211 and Songhakbori which were derived from semidwarfing sources, were sensitive types.
The elongation of culm length in barley applied at panicle initiation or booting stages was enhanced in both pot or field plots, but the response was more effective at booting stage. In general the GA3 response at seedlings in Hoagland’s solution was similar to one in both pot and field sprayed with GA3 solution.
