감성교육으로서의 음악교육의 의미 재고(再考)

국문 초록

본 연구는 감성교육으로서의 음악교육의 의미를 재조명하는 것을 목적으로 한다. 지난 세기의 학교교육은 지식의 습득과 이성적 능력을 중시 여기는 주지주의 교육이 중심이 되었다. 학교음악교육은 예술교육의 핵심적인 역할을 하며 감성교육에 직접 적으로 관여한다. 그동안 감성교육으로서의 음악교육의 의미는 저평가 되어 왔는데, 이는 이성을 중시하였던 20세기 동안 감성의 역할이 저평가 되어온 것과 같은 맥락에서 이해할 수 있다. 그러나 뇌 과학의 발달로 인간의 정신능력에서 감성의 역할이 재평가 되고 있듯이 감성교육으로서의 음악교육의 역할 또한 재평가 되어야 한다. 음악교육을 통한 감성교육의 의미를 분명하게 정리하는 것은, 미래 학교음악교육을 위한 이론적 토대와 음악교육의 정체성 확립에 도움이 되고 음악활동의 교육적 활용 도를 높이는데 필요할 것으로 보인다. 본 연구는 감성교육으로서의 음악교육의 의미를 재조명하기 위해 먼저 교과교육과 예술교육 차원에서 학교음악교육을 기술하고, 감성지능, 감성역량, 사회감성학습(SEL)을 고찰함으로써 음악교육을 통한 감성 교육의 의미를 ① 미(美)적 경험과 음악적 심성의 성장, ② 정서의 심리적 체험과 인성․사회성 계발, ③ 실천적 표현 능력과 사회변화의 주도 및 예술문화의 창출, ④ 감성지능의 계발과 감성역량의 향상이라는 네 가지 관점에서 살펴보았다.

영문 초록

The purpose of this study is to shed new light on the meaning of music education as an emotional education. For the past century, school education was focused on intellectualism, in which the acquisition of knowledge and rational ability is considered crucial. School music education has played a key role in art education and has actively taken a part in emotional education. Until now, the significance of music education as an emotional education had been undervalued, and this can be understood in the same context as the role of emotion being undervalued during the twentieth century when rationale was seen with more value. However, with the development of brain science, the role of emotion is being reevaluated in the realm of human mental capacity and thus, the role of music education as an emotional education should be done likewise. Clarifying the meaning of emotional education through music education is necessary for enhancing the educational utilization of music activity and is also helpful to establishing a music education identity and theoretical foundation for future school music education. To shed new light on the meaning of music education as an emotional education, this study first described school music education in the dimension of subject and art education, considered emotional intelligence/emotional competence, and social and emotional learning(SEL). This study also examined the meaning of emotional education through music education from the four following perspectives: ① the improvement of aesthetic experience and the musical mind, ② the development of the psychological experience of emotion and of personality and sociality, ③ the practical capacity of expression and the lead of social change and the creation of art culture, ④ the development of emotional intelligence and the enhancement of emotional competence.
