국문 초록
세계 각국은 사회·정치·경제 전반에 걸쳐 수준 높은 의사 결정을 할 수 있는 시민을 양성하기 위한 노력을 기울여 왔으며, 이런 노력의 대부분은 시민교육을 통해 이루어지고 있다. 영국 또한 2000년대를 전후로 Crick 보고서와 Parekh 보고서와 같이 시민교육에 대한 체계적인 연구를 통해 시민교육의 확대와 더불어 정규 교육과정의 편입에 관심을 기울여 왔다. 이 연구는 시민교육과 관련된 두 보고서를 비교 분석하고, 그것이 한국의 시민교육에 주는 시사점을 검토하는 데 그 목적이 있다. 이를 위해 Crick 보고서와 Parekh 보고서의 배경 및 목적, 주요 내용을 비교·분석하고, 그 결과를 바탕으로 우리나라 시민교육에 주는 시사점을 도출한다. 그 결과 이 연구는 우리나라 시민교육에 적어도 세 가지, 즉 체계적이고 장기적인 연구 프로젝트의 시행, 다양한 사회 구성원의 참여, 시민교육을 수행하기 위한 구체적이고 효과적인 교육방법에 대한 연구 등이 필요하다는 제안을 하고 있다.
영문 초록
It is no exaggeration to say that the maintenance and development of democratic society depends on citizens. There has been various efforts to cultivate citizens who can make high-quality decisions throughout social, political and economical issues, and most of these efforts are made through citizenship education. Throughout the 21 century the United Kingdom became interested in incorporating the formal educational curriculum with the expansion of citizenship education through systematic studies such as the Crick Reports and the Parekh Report.
This paper aims to compare and analyze two reports, i.e., the Crick report and the Parek report on citizenship education and to suggest implications for citizenship education in Korea. This paper suggests three recommendations for citizenship education in Korea: the implementation of systematic and long-term research projects, the engagement of various social members, and the need for research on the specific and effective education methods of civic education.
