영문 초록
This study was evaluated for the efficiency of the rapid determination method of Log10 50% Lethal Doses(LD50) based on the comparison of virulence among Salmonella Enteritidis(SE) Bacteriophage type(PT) isolates. Kuehne’s method, which was not only simple and rapid but also ethical or animal welfare, was examined. A 10-fold serial dilutions of bacteria or virus were administered to six animals per groups. Above all, this method required the minimum number of animals for the determination of LD50 values than that of traditional ones and considered as more suitable for the present clinical laboratory situations in Korea, because of enforcement of the National Animal Welfare Raw. According to the 2 weeks old chicken challenge results based on the Kuehne’s method, two isolates(SEPT 1 & 4) were even more virulent than that of SEPT 6A strain. As a results, Kuehne’s method was found as a very rapid and simple for calculation of Log10 LD50 values and also an animal welfare.
