어휘 강화 학습전략이 초등영어 학습자의 어휘 학습에 미치는 효과

국문 초록

본 연구는 어휘 강화 학습전략의 명시적 지도가 수준에 따른 초등영어 학습자의 전략 사용, 영어 사용능력과 정의적 영역에 미치는 영향을 알아보기 위해 초등 6학년 190명을 비교집단과 연구집단으로 나누어 9월부터 12월까지 14주 동안 실험을 진 행하였다. 연구집단에게는 어휘 강화 학습전략을 명시적으로 지도하였고 비교집단은 교과서 중심의 수업을 하였다. 실험 종료 후 영어 사용능력 및 어휘 학습 수준 사후평가, 어휘 강화 학습전략 사용과 정의적 영역 설문, 개별 면담을 실시하여 실험의 효과를 분석하였다. 그 결과 어휘 강화 학습전략 지도가 긍정적인 효과를 가져왔고, 어휘 유지에 있어서는 상위, 중위 집단 학습자들에게 효과가 있는 것으로 나타났다. 영어 사용능력에 있어서는 상위집단에서 유의미한 향상이 있었으며, 정의적 영역과 관련하여 어휘 학습의 중요성 인식과 동기에서는 상위집단이, 흥미와 동기에서는 하위집단이 의미있는 변화를 보였다. 어휘 강화 학습전략은 수업 내용과 통합하여 명시적으로 지도하되, 학습자가 어휘 강화 학습전략에 흥미를 가질 만한 활동과, 학습 한 전략을 적용할 수 있는 기회를 다양하게 제공할 필요가 있다

영문 초록

This study aims to investigate the effect of deliberate instruction of consolidation strategies on the vocabulary learning, English skills, and affective domains of Korean elementary school students in different levels. For the purpose, an experiment was carried out on two groups of 190 sixth graders, the experimental group and the control group, for 14 weeks. The former was taught consolidation strategies, and the latter was focused on communicative activities as presented in the textbook. After the treatments, posttests for English skills and surveys about the vocabulary learning strategies and affective factors were carried out. The results of the study are as follows: 1) The instruction of consolidation strategies for vocabulary learning positively affected the acquisition of vocabulary in all levels of students. For vocabulary retention, it affected both high and average leveled groups. 2) The high leveled group showed meaningful improvement in their English skills. 3) The experimental treat affected the affective domain for vocabulary learning in general, showing meaningful increase of awareness of importance and motivation for vocabulary learning in the case of the higher level group, and the interest and motivation increase in vocabulary learning for the lower leveled group
