국문 초록

역사교육에서 민주주의 교육을 고민하는 것은 현재 우리 공동체의 합의된 가치를 가르치고자 하는 사회적 요구에 부합하는 것이다. 민주주의 사회에서 시민을 길러내기를 요구받고 있는 공교육의 흐름속에서 다른 교과에 비해 역사과의 내용은 다소 이와 거리가 있는 교육 내용이 아니었는가에 대한 반성에서 이 글은 시작한다. 이제까지 역사과의 교육 내용은 역사학의 연구성과를 대체로 반영하여 왔으며, 수업에서는 역사적 사실의 기본 지식을 암기하고 익히는 형태로 실행되어 왔음에 대한 현장 교사의 반성에서 출발한 것이기도 하다. 공교육 현장에서 역사교사는 민주주의 실천에 대한 문제의식을 가져야 하며, 이에 따라 적극적으로 민주시민 육성이라는 공교육 목표에 부합하는 교육 활동을 해야 하기 때문이다. 이때 민주적인 요소들을 가르칠 수 있도록 내용 구성이 필요하다. 따라서 이 글에서는 민주주의라는 가치를 기준으로 교육 과정의 내용 선정을 시도해 보려고 하였다. 우선 한국사 연구 영역에서 민주주의와 관련된 요소를 찾아보는 연구 성과들을 검토하고, 이에 근거하여 한국사 내용 선정을 위한 원리를 찾아 제안해 보았다. 그리고 이를 기준으로 한국사의 내용을 선정해보았다. 한편의 연구가 지니는 지면의 한계상 한국사의 일부시기에 국한하여 연구를 진행하였으며, 또한 이렇게 추출된 민주주의 내용 요소 및 원리를 어떻게 가르칠지에 대한 교육방법적 논의는 차후의 과제로 남겨 둔다.

영문 초록

The democracy is important theme in public education in these day. It means that the curriculum at the school has been received the social demands including democracy trend. By the way, the history teaching is not concerned about the democracy. In this subject curriculum, there are many content of from the history with respect to the positivism, the constructivism in the history studies and the teaching method in history education. There are nearly the receiving of a social needs or trends. It is a forgetting of the fact that the history education is also one of the subject in public education. In this article we searched the content in Korean history for eliciting democracy elements. From now on such the studies is a little in the Korean history studies. The searching for those that the democracy elements is in the system of the Confusion and the Buddhism seem to be artificial and manipulatory to history studies. But it is essential to teach the history and to history teacher in classroom. We need not to separate the present living and history. So we have to discover the elements in democratic meaning at the history for teaching. This article is the first trial of eliciting a democratic characteristic from Korean history. So it is rough and coarse. But it has the meaning of a endeavor to relating the present to the past history in teaching it.
