영문 초록

The purpose of this study is to analyze attitudes toward political parties among sexual minorities(LGBT: Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender) in the United States, and to reconsider the existing argument that the majority of the homosexuals would be favorable to the Democratic Party. Based on the social identity theory and utilizing the survey data, the empirical results show that the LGBT’s attitudes toward political parties are related with how strongly they feel belonged to their own sexual group. More specifically, gays and lesbians who have a strong sense of attachment to the LGBT group tend to have more favorable attitudes toward the Democratic Party, while the bisexuals and transgenders with a weak sense of belonging to the LGBT group are more likely to identify with the Republican Party.
