영문 초록

Rice is a major staple food in Korea, and the efficiency of rice farm depend mostly on location and farm scale. A critical question is why farm income levels differ among farmers with similar farm sizes in the same region. The purpose of this study were to identify the characteristics of superior farm management and to suggest plans for improving inferior farm management. Following the influential work of Farrel(1957) on productive efficiency, a large number of papers have been published on this topic and various aspects of it(Lovell and Schmidt, 1988). This paper attempts to show how DEA(Data Envelopment Analysis), a nonparametric productivity analysis method, to be improve their respective efficiencies and competitiveness. Especially, we measured relative efficiencies Korean property-liability 30 rice farm household using DEA model, and raised several issues including the cause of inefficiency, benchmarking toward reference set. This method can be easily applied to find all the DEA efficient DMUs that are on a common efficient face as one or more prespecified DMUs. The methodology and the results in this paper may also serve as a useful guideline for agricultural wholesale market to set their respective business strategies.
