The purpose of this study is to estimate the effect of roughage choice on quality grade of Hanwoo meat. The ordered logit model was estimated using 428 Hanwoo steers data. Based on estimated coefficients from the model, the results show that marbling EPD, frequency of annual training attendance, number of whole breeding, feeding period, and roughage choice (alfalfa, italian ryegrass, sudan grass, tall fescue) are important factors in influencing quality grade of Hanwoo meat. Of roughages, alfalfa, italian ryegrass, and tall fescue have positive effects on quality grade, respectively.
However, sudan grass has negative effect. The results also indicate that alfalfa, italian ryegrass, and tall fescue increase net revenue respectively, and tall fescue has the highest net revenue increase. The results of this paper may contribute to government’s policies for roughage production, and also improving farmers’ income.
