고등학교 화학수업에 적용된 교과 연계 독서 활동의 효과

국문 초록

이 연구는 고등학교 화학수업에서 활용 가능한 교과 연계 독서 자료를 선정하고 이를 수업에 적용함으로 학생의 과학 흥미도, 과학에 대한 태도, 학업 성취도에 미치는 영향을 규명하고자 하였다. 인문계 고등학교 3학년을 대상으로 총 12차시의 교과 연계 독서 활동을 도입한 후 학생들의 과학 흥미도, 과학에 대한 태도, 학업 성취도의 변화를 분석하였다. 교과 연계 독서 활동이 도입된 실험 집단에서 과학 흥미도와 과학에 대한 태도의 개선 결과가 나타났다. 통계적 유의미성이 확보된 세부 과학 흥미도 요소는 ‘과학에 대한 흥미와 즐거움’이었으며, 특히 성적 하위 집단에서는 ‘도구적 동기유발’로 나타났다. 과학에 대한 태도의 하위 영역에서 통계적 유의미성은 과학의 ‘가치에 대한 태도(인지적 요소)’로 나타났다. 교과 연계 독서 활동에 따른 학업 성취도 변화는 흥미롭게도 성적 상위 집단에서 유의미하게 나타났다. 이 연구는 과학 수업에 독서 활동을 연계할 경우 과학 학습의 다양한 측면에서 긍정적 효과를 유발할 수 있음을 보여주며, 과학 수업 내 체계적 도입의 필요성을 보여준다.

영문 초록

The goal of the study is to evaluate the effect on students’ interest, attitude toward science, and academic achievement after application of content-area reading materials in the high school chemistry classes for 12 th grade students. The experiment has been carried out for 12 consecutive sessions of chemistry classes. Both the students’ interest in science and the attitude toward science have been improved in the experimental group. The sub-criterion for the interest in science that were improved with statistical significance was ‘the interest and enjoyment in science’. Particularly, from the sub-group of lower academic achievement, the interest was focussed on the sub-criterion ‘instrumental motivation’. A significant improvement within the sub-criteria of the attitude toward science was ’the attitude toward the value of science’. The effect on the academic achievement was significant among the higher achevement sub-group only. Our results show clearly that the application of content-area reading activities in the science classes is highly effective to improve the learners’ affective domains and the performance.
