유아기 장애 자녀를 양육하는 아버지의 심리내적 갈등과 성장에 대한 탐색

국문 초록

본 연구는 유아기 장애 자녀를 둔 아버지가 자녀를 양육하는 과정에서 겪게 되는 심리내적 갈등과 성장의 경험을 탐색하고자 하였다. 이를 위해 연구자는 자녀가 발달지연이나 장애 판정을 받았으며 만 4~ 5세의 유아기 자녀를 둔 아버지 3명을 연구참여자로 하여 각 3회기씩 심층개별면담을 진행하였으며, 다양한 문서자료를 수집하여 자료분석에 활용하였다. 수집된 자료는 개방코딩, 범주화, 범주확인의 세 단계로 요약되는 반복적 비교분석법을 이용하여 자료를 부호화하고 유형화하는 과정을 통해 분석하였다. 연구결과, 장애유아 아버지들이 경험한 심리내적 갈등은 충격, 부정, 혼란, 죄책감, 불안, 좌절로 나타났으 며, 심리내적 성장은 자아성찰을 통한 개인적 성장, 장애자녀에 대한 진정한 이해 그리고 찾아온 행복, 아버지로서의 반성과 책임감, 삶의 가치에 대한 진정한 깨달음을 포함하는 것으로 분석되었다. 본 연구는 장애유아 아버지들에 대한 현장의 교사 및 전문가들의 이해를 넓히고, 더 나아가 유아기 장애자녀를 양육하는 아버지들이 느끼는 심리내적 갈등과 부담의 경감 및 긍정적 경험의 강화를 통해 이들의 삶의 질을 향상시킬 수 있는 지원 프로그램을 구축하는데 기초자료로 활용될 수 있을 것으로 기대된다.

영문 초록

This study aimed at exploring internal psychological conflicts and experiences of growth of fathers with children with disabilities in the process of raising their children. The study conducted three individual in-depth interviews with three fathers whose children had been determined to have developmental delays or disabilities, and various documents were also collected and utilized in data analysis. Such gathered data were analyzed using the constant-comparative method, a method comprised of open-coding, categorization and confirmation of categories. Results of the study show that fathers of young children with disabilities experience internal psychological conflicts including shock; denial; confusion; guilt; anxiety; and frustration. On the other hand, fathers also went through internal psychological growth comprised of personal development through self-reflection; genuine understanding of their children with disabilities and the resulting joy; a sense of responsibility as a father; and realization of the true value of life. Hopefully this research contributes to a better understanding of fathers of young children with special needs among educators and professionals in the field of early childhood education. In addition, this study may serve as a foundational work that can facilitate support programs that may lessen the burden and conflicts experienced by fathers of young children with disabilities at the same time emphasizing their positive experiences so that their quality of life may be elevated
