퇴계 경공부법

국문 초록

이 글은 <천명신도(天命新圖)>를 중심으로 퇴계의 공부법을 경(敬)을 축으로 해서 논의하고 그것의 교육적 전언을 알아보는 것이다. 원래 인간의 본성인 천명(天命)을 선험적으로 규정하기 위하여 들여온 것이 <천명신도>다. 그런데 이것이 어떻게 경담론의 구조와 유기적으로 연대하며 경공부법을 설계하고 있는지 검토하는 것이 이 글의 주요 목적이다. 부가해서 이 글은 경공부법이 오늘날 현대교육에 주는 교육적 가치를 알아보는 것이다. 연구 결과, 퇴계의 경공부법은 인간의 심(心)-성(性)-정(情)을 둘러싼 수양의 지평에서 인식론을 넘어 존재론으로 나아가는 자기 배려와 자기 성찰이라는 퇴계공부의 기획물이었다. 이것은 오늘날 현대교육의 맹점을 극복하고 존재론적 사색의 관점을 열어주는 공부 장치로 해석할 수 있다. 그러면서 인간의 본성을 치밀하게 연마시키는 교육적 설계가 경공부법에 들어 있다고 평가할 수 있다. 이러한 관점은 오늘날 현대교육에서 공부의 영역으로 취급받지 못하고 있는 마음공부의 복원이라는 점에서 교육적 의의가 있겠다.

영문 초록

This work discusses Toegye’s Gongfu method, which emphasizes Mindfulness, with a focus on Tian Ming Xin Tu, and investigates its educational message. The purpose of Tian Ming Xin Tu is to transcendentally prescribe the Mandate of Heaven that is human nature. The main purpose of this work is to examine how Tian Ming Xin Tu jointly consolidates with the discourse of Mindfulness to construct the Gongfu method of Mindfulness. Additionally, this work examines the educational value that the Gongfu method of Mindfulness contributes to modern education. This study finds that Toegye’s Gongfu method of Mindfulness is the self-care and self-contemplation that is the project of Toegye’s Gongfu, going beyond epistemology to ontology in the horizon of self-cultivation that surrounds the Xin-Xing-Qing of humans. This can be interpreted as a system of Gongfu that overcomes the weaknesses of modern education and opens the perspective of ontological thinking. It can be determined that the Gongfu method of Mindfulness contains an educational structure that carefully cultivates human nature. This perspective finds educational significance in the restoration of the Gongfu of the Mind-and-Heart, nowadays considered not to be within the domain of modern education.
