영문 초록

In this paper, I will investigate the structure and the meaning of With-absolute constructions based on Binary Opposition Approach(BOA). In With-absolute constructions ADVL (adverbial) consists of two distinguished complements of NP which are To-infinitive and Participle(-ing). I'll mainly deal with the structure and the meaning of ADVL regarding the two complements in this paper. An interesting difference between To-infinitive and Participle as a complement in ADVL was found in the structure by Kim(2009). He argues that while in To-infinitive-complement the NP and the complement have a complementary relation, in Participle-complement they are in the subject-predicate relation. After looking into the deep structure I agree with him but make a proposal slightly different from him based on BOA. Regarding the difference of the meaning in ADVL with the two complements I also make a proposal based on BOA. This proposal is based on an actuality in Participle-complement and non-actuality in To-infinitive-complement.
