국문 초록

본 연구는 우리나라 유일의 내국인 출입 카지노인 강원랜드 카지노 지역주민을 대상으로 개인 웰빙 인덱스 (Personal Wellbeing Index: PWI) 를 이용한 지역주민의 삶의 질과 지역 애착도 및 인구통계학적 변수와의 관계를 고찰하였다. 이를 위하여 강원랜드 카지노 지역주민을 대상으로 설문조사를 실시하였다. 본 연구의 분석결과, PWI는 지역주민의 삶의 질을 측정하는데 있어서 신뢰도와 타당도를 모두 충족하였다. 전반적인 삶의 질에 대한 만족도와 모든 PWI 세부 항목들은 전반적으로 낮게 나타났다. 세 가지의 지역 애착도 요인 중에서, 인간관계 요인이 지역주민의 삶의 질에 가장 유의한 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다. 또한, 연령, 소득, 교육 등도 지역주민의 삶의 질에 유의한 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다. 본 연구는 주관적인 요인(지역 애착도)과 객관적인 변수(인구통계적 변수)를 동시에 사용하여 카지노 지역주민의 삶의 질을 연구했다는데 의의가 있다. 본 연구의 분석결과는 카지노 정책입안자가 향후 지역주민의 행복과 삶의 만족을 위해 어떠한 노력을 해야 하는지에 대한 시사점을 제시해준다.

영문 초록

This study examined the quality of life among residents in a gambling communities in South Korea by using Personal Wellbeing Index (PWI) and the impacts of respondents" community attachment and socio-demographics on quality of life domains. The findings confirmed that the PWI had good reliability, validity, and sensitivity in measuring one"s quality of life at a community level. The overall satisfaction rating and specific PWI domains in this study were relatively lower compared to other studies, which used the same instrument. Among three community attachment related factors emerged, "people attachment" was strongly associated with respondents" quality of life, suggesting that respondents valued their interpersonal relationships in their community. Furthermore, age, income, and education were significant factors in influencing one"s quality of life. By examining both subjective (i.e., community attachment) and objective (i.e. socio-demographic characteristics) precursors in assessing residents" quality of life in the gambling community, the findings of the study shed some light on how policy makers and regulators make an effort to optimize residents" happiness and satisfaction with life.
