영문 초록

The urban development paradigm has shifted from a modern approach, focusing on growth-oriented policy to post-modern approach, stressing urban environment and quality of human life. The rise of post-modern development theory formed the basis of a new understanding of the importance of the urban environment. Urban environment issues today qualify as global problems. This paper analyzes the traits of urban environment through comparative study and hypothesis testing, and it suggests their implications. The hypothesis testing focused on three variables: urban environment satisfaction, urban environment soundness, and urban environment participation. The results of hypothesis testing show that the hypotheses, that the post-modern city ranks higher than the modern city in all three respects, can be supported. The results of this study serve as a reminder of the importance of the urban environment and suggest the direction for urban development policy in the future.
