부모의 자녀 진로 기대에 대한 대학생의 지각이 진로결정 어려움에 미치는 영향

국문 초록

본 연구는 대학생이 지각하는 부모의 자녀 진로 기대가 진로결정 어려움에 어떠한 영향을 미치는지 살펴보고, 이 과정에서 자녀의 공공부문 및 대기업 취업 희망 여부가 조절효과를 갖는지 탐색함으로써 청년층 취업에 관한 기초자료를 제공하고, 진로결정에 당면한 대학생자녀와 그들의 부모를 위한 실천적 시사점을 제공하고자 한다. 이를 위해 서울시 소재 4년제 남녀공학 9개 대학교에 재학 중인 학생들에게 설문조사를 실시하여 246명의 자료를 분석하였다. 본 연구의 주요 결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 대학생자녀가 지각하는 부모의 진로 기대와 대학생의 진로결정 어려움 및 대학생이 원하는 일자리의 전반적인 경향을 살펴본 결과, 대학생들이 지각하는 부모의 진로 기대는 다소 높은 수준이었으며, 진로결정 어려움은 보통 수준으로 나타났다. 또한 대학생이 향후 가장 원하는 일자리는 공공부문이 48.7%로 가장 높은비중을 차지하였고, 다음으로 대기업 일자리를 희망하는 경우가 31.3%를 차지하였다. 둘째, 대학생이 지각하는 부모의 자녀 진로 기대가 진로결정 어려움에 어떠한 영향을 미치는지 분석한 결과, 대학생자녀의 연령이 낮을수록, 그리고 자신의 향후 진로에 대한 부모의 기대수준을 높게 지각할수록 진로결정에서 상대적으로 높은 수준의 어려움을 겪는 것으로 나타났다. 셋째, 대학생이 지각하는 부모의 자녀 진로 기대가 진로결정 어려움에 영향을 미치는 과정에서 공공부문이나 대기업 일자리를 희망하는지 여부가 조절효과를 갖는지 분석한 결과,대학생자녀가 향후 자신의 진로에 대하여 부모의 기대 수준을 높게 지각할수록 진로결정에서 보다 높은 수준의 어려움을 겪는 현상은 대학생이 공공부문 일자리를 희망하는 경우 현저하였으며, 대기업 일자리 희망 여부는 유의미한 조절효과를 나타내지 않았다.

영문 초록

The main objective of this study was to examine the effects of perceptions of parental expectations for a child’s future careers on one's career decision-making difficulties among college students, focusing on the moderating effects of desire for the future jobs in public sector and big business. Data were collected from 246 undergraduate students enrolled in several universities located in Seoul. The respondents were requested to complete the self-administered questionnaire including the ‘Perceptions of Parental Expectations for a Child’s Future Career Scale’, the ‘Career Decision-Making Difficulties Scale’, and questions regarding desired future careers and demographic information. The major findings of this study are as follows: First, the students showed slightly high levels of perceptions of parental expectations for their future careers with moderate levels of career decision-making difficulties. Their desired future careers were ‘public-sector jobs’(48.7%)and ‘jobs in big business’(31.3%). Second, the hierarchical multiple regression analyses revealed that younger college students with higher levels of perceived parental expectations for their future careers reported higher levels of career decision-making difficulties, especially when they perceived high levels of parental expectations for a child's happiness and sustaining reputation of the family. Third, this study also found a significant moderation effect of students' desire for the future jobs in public sector on the relationship between students' perceived parental expectations for a child’s future careers and their career decision-making difficulties. Students with desire for public-sector jobs in the future who perceived high levels of parental expectations reported high levels of career decision-making difficulties.
