영문 초록

This study is to examine Jeong In-seung's Korean grammar study generally and to inquire into the significance of Jeong In-seung's grammar study from the viewpoint of research history. The real worth of Jeong In-seung's Korean language study is found in his dictionary compilation, and he, as Korean linguist, had great interest in Korean grammar study and left many books mainly in school grammar. Pyojun Godeung Malbon」(Standard High School Grammar) (1956) is a book that shows Jeong In-seung's grammatical system and research content best, and this study examined Jeong In-seung's word formation theory, part of speech theory, and syntax, focusing on 「Pyojun Godeung Malbon」 (Standard High School Grammar) What is particularly notable in Jeong In-seung's grammar is the principle of classification of parts of speech and practice. As the criteria of part of speech classification, he presented meaning, form, and function, and emphasized that these three criteria should be considered comprehensively but classified in the prioritized order of function, form and meaning, and this view still remains in effect today after half a century. Another thing to note in the part of speech theory study is that 'ida'' is defined as a predicate case. Controversies over the characteristics of 'ida' continues up to the present, but it is certain that the foundation, on which 'ida' is explained as a predicate case in the current school grammar, is the results of Jeong In-seung. It is true that the grammatical study in those days, which was concentrated in the part of speech theory, was inadequate in the syntax theory, and it leaves missing feeling that also in Jeong In-seung's grammar, studies on sentences were not actively performed.
