Purpose: To report a case of central retinal vein occlusion due to dehydration in a healthy adult with good visual recovery. Methods: A 31-year-old man who presented with acute diminution of vision in right eye one day after playing a soccer game in summer visited to our ophthalmologic department. Results: The best corrected visual acuity was 0.1 in the right eye and 1.0 in the left eye initially. A full examination of anterior segment was normal but his right fundus showed optic disc swelling, flame-shaped retinal hemorrhages around the optic disc, and mild macular edema. Fluorescein angiography was performed at his first visit and it showed dilated and tortuous peripapillary veins, mild macular leakage, and multiple blocked fluorescences due to retinal hemorrhages. Review of the patient`s past history and physical examination were done at the first visit, and nothing significant was found. Laboratory results for the risk factors of central retinal vein occlusion were within normal limit, except for elevated hematocrit and platelet count. At the 30-days follow-up, his best corrected visual acuity was 1.0 in the right eye, and his right fundus showed the improvement in the optic disc swelling, and decreased retinal hemorrhages and macular edema.
