This study can be considered as a second step after the first one that has been made last year with the study about the image of the city in the modern Egyptian poetry, and the aim is to compare the imagery of the place in the modern Arabic poetry in Egypt with the imagery of the place in the modern Korean poetry which means that the third step will be with the modern Korean poetry with the coming year in a project I intended to achieve to introduce modern Korean poetry to the Arabian readers as a first time in an academic research. The aim of this study was to find out the symbolic significances of the place in modern Arabic poetry in Egypt. Therefore the study analyzed many patterns of modern Arabic poetry in Egypt to find out how the poets dealt with“place” as a motif in their poems. The study paid attention to the concepts of the village, the country side, the desert, the sea, the national cities, and the foreign cities as motives. And for that aim the study covered the anthologies of the most famous poets from classical period. This study can be considered as a new study in the modern Arabic poetry because of its point of view from one side, and its aim in the comparative literature from the other side, and above all its target is a specific filed which concern with not all the modern Arabic poetry in many Arabian countries, but only in Egypt, which gives its analyses and results more values because it will not be in a hurry to cover many poets from many countries as a defect that marks such studies when it tries to cover so many anthologies from many countries, in the other hand. The study started with the concept of place, and it showed its meanings in the Arabic dictionary, in the geographical field, and in literature, then it viewed the concept of city form historical point of view. After that it addressed the way the old poetry mentioned city, especially during the pre-Islamic and the Islamic period, to answer the question: did the classical poets mention city as the old poets did or not? The study also showed how the classical poets used places in their anthologies, and how they felt about it. As a final conclusion it was very clear that the symbolic significances of place among the classical poets, Shawqi, Hafiz, and El Baroudi, were not very different because they belonged to the same attitude, so their ideologies were surly not different.
