영문 초록

The purpose of this paper is to study numeral system in Literary and Colloquial Arabic. This system is very complicated and systematic. In Literary Arabic, numerals as common nouns are agreed with genders, numbers, cases and definiteness. Their agreement with genders is normal in some cases, but reverse in some cases, especially in numerals between 3 to 10. In this paper it is examined that Literary Arabic numerals have double-faced specificity, namely complexity and systematicality. On the other hand it is also observed that in Colloquial Arabic the numeral system is simplified as compared with that in Literary Arabic.
