Career Development of High School Students with Disabilities in STEM: With Special Regard to Inclusive Pre-College Program

The purpose of this study was to establish and to provide the pre-college transition program for
high school students with/without disabilities in university campus, and to evaluate the effectiveness
of that program. The pre-college transition program helps students with/without disabilities to
explore their interests, aptitude and promote knowledge in the field of science technology. The
subjects were compose of 5/5 students with/without disabilities and 8 mentors majored in
sciencesandengineering majors in university. After conducting the pre-college transition program,
participants filled out a survey measuring how satisfied they were with program. According to results, participants showed high satisfaction about the contents and management of the program as
well as the supports of staffs and instructors. In addition, in the interview with students with
disabilities, it is not what they used to be, two of them tried to investigate what they can do in
the field of science technology after the pre-college transition program. In general, all participants
stated that the pre-college transition program has a positive effect on their career exploration.
