The idea of Qi(氣) is fundamental to Oriental medical thinking. We can say that everything in the universe is composed of and defined by its Qi. The law of nature can describe the bodily change referred to as the So-Mun(素問). Therefore, we should understand the pattern of Qi in the nature in advance to understand that in the body. We can see how they influence each other after understanding each pattern. There are two way of perceiving the structure of circulating pattern of Qi. First one is to divide the whole Qi-system into two parts, the other one is to divide it into three parts. The example of the former is Yin(陰) and Yang(陽), and that of the latter is Sam-Jae(三才) which means the three orders of heaven, earth and man.
In this paper, I wrote about the meaning of the 'two' and the 'three' which are very important means to explain the world and explain the structure of Qi-system using these numbers and wrote about how we can clinically use this kind of way of explaining Qi in diagnosis and treatment.
