국문 초록

한국의 영재교육은 지난 10년 이상 동안 괄목할만한 양적 성장을 지속해 왔다. 영재교육 수혜 대상자가 크게 확충되었으며, 초창기 영재교육 담당 교원의 부족 현상도 해소되었다. 교사관찰추천제를 중심으로 한 영재판별 방법과 절차가 정립되었으며, 수ㆍ과학 중심의 영재교육에서 인문, 예술, 발명, 정보 등 다양한 분야로 확대되었다. 한편, 연구 기관의 역량이나 연구 성과물이 증가하였는가 하면, 정부의 영재교육진흥 정책 수립이나 재정 지원에 있어서도 상당한 발전을 이룩해 왔다. 이 연구는 그 동안의 영재교육 연구와 실천에 대해 성찰적 입장에서 평가하고 미래지향적 발전 방향을 제시하는 데 초점을 두고 있다. 이를 위해 영재와 영재성 개념의 정의, 영재교육 접근 관점 등을 개관하고 지난 10년 동안의 양적 성장에 대해 영재판별, 교육과정, 교원연수, 지원 체제, 법률과 정책 및 연구 성과 등의 측면에서 논의하였다. 이를 바탕으로 향후 한국의 영재교육이 지향해야 할 방향과 실천방안을 영재성의 개념화, 영재교육 연구 패러다임의 정립, 영재교육과정과 수업, 영재 교육 관련 법령과 행ㆍ재정적 지원, 미래의 영재 교육 연구 이슈 등을 중심으로 현안과 해결책을 제시하였다.

영문 초록

Since the proclamation of special law for promoting gifted and talented education in 2000, Korean gifted education had developed rapidly and quantitatively. While Korean gifted education continues growth and development in many aspects, many advocates stress the importance of efforts to ensure an advanced qualitative jump via critical reflection on gains and losses of past 10 years. This study is a sort of such an attempt to reflect critically on Korean gifted education. Synthesizing results of various research endeavors which were accumulated so far, this study suggests 9 recommendations for productive changes in gifted and talented education. They encompass changes in conceptions of giftedness and the gifted, gifted education policies to facilitate, curriculum and instructional improvements, adapting identification of the gifted to educational services, reexamining regulations and legislations of gifted education, and also prospective research themes including gifted education systems of North Korea, female gifted education, and sophistication of research methodology in gifted education et al.. This study can not be comprehensive enough to include various issues raised in the field of Korean gifted education. However, it would be recognized as a catalyst to stimulate an open discourse on essential academic topics like definitions of giftedness, harmony of excellence and equity ideology, providing more adequate and differentiated education services, authentic assessment approaches, administrative and legislative supports to gifted and talented education in Korea so on.
