This study examines reward preferences of Indian and Korean employees. Previous studies mostly used the Hofstede cultural value model to compare work values across countries. However, there have been few attempts to investigate reward preferences of Indian employees despite the importance of the Indian market to multinational corporations. In particular, this study attempts to analyze reward preference based on the updated framework of Hofstede s value model to reflect the possibility of cultural changes in India. The results from the study show that the updated model is more powerful at explaining the reward preference of Indian employees. Specifically, Indian employees exhibited a stronger preference for power-oriented rewards, individual performance-based reward and, financial rewards than Korean employees. In addition, Indian employees placed more value on job security and non-performance rewards than Korean employees.
